Two PJC students selected for West Endowed Scholarship

Recently the Anthony and Debra West scholarship was awarded to two Paris Junior College nursing students by PJC and Paris Regional Medical Center. Recipients of the 2013-14 Anthony and Debra West Endowed Nursing Scholarships were recently announced by Paris Regional Medical Center and Paris Junior College (PJC). Selected for the honor are Kristi Baggett and Justin Enox. Anthony and Debra West were both long-time employees at CHRISTUS St. Joseph’s Hospital and Paris Regional Medical Center (PRMC), who were tragically killed in an accident in May 2007.
Mrs. Baggett began her first year of nursing this summer and Mr. Enox completed the LVN program and will complete his registered nursing training in May 2014.
The Anthony and Debra West Endowment Fund was created by Paris Regional Medical Center employees, administration, physicians and friends to support the education of future nurses.
Steve Grubbs, CEO, at PRMC noted, “We congratulate Kristi and Justin on their selection and look forward to seeing them complete their training to their ability, and to make positive contributions that will impact the care provided to many residents in our community.”
Debra West received her associate’s degree in nursing from PJC, worked as an RN for many years and served as a case manager, according to Marcia Putnam, director of health occupations at PJC. Following Anthony’s West’s military career which included two tours of duty in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart, he attended PJC where he earned his associate’s degree in nursing and worked as an RN at PRMC for 17 years.
“We are grateful to all the co-workers, physicians and friends of Anthony and Debra who have been so generous to donate to the West Endowment Fund providing such a fitting tribute to their lives of service,” said Derald Bulls, PJC’s director of institutional advancement/alumni affairs. “As these students spend time in the hospital and other clinical settings during their training, I hope they have the opportunity to hear stories about the difference Debra and Anthony made in the lives of their fellow employees, patients, and health care providers.”
“As the community’s healthcare provider, we feel a tremendous amount of pride knowing Ms. Baggett and Mr. Enox have chosen careers helping others,” said Grubbs.
