PJC Students to Vote on Final Homecoming Slate

Paris Junior College students in Paris, Greenville and Sulphur Springs voted last week for the final slate of Homecoming King and Queen candidates. Voting takes place this week to select the two to be crowned during PJC’s 89th Homecoming weekend Nov. 7-9. Nominees for queen are Chancy Williams of Paris and Sara Dunmon and Chelsea Jordan of Powderly. Nominees for king are Tyler Murphy of Commerce, Brad McDonald of Wills Point and Callaway Kirkpatrick of Aledo. They will lead the parade that begins at 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 7, starting at the Hunt Center, reaching the downtown Paris Square and then returning. Run by the PJC Student Government Association, the parade features floats and entries from PJC divisions, athletic teams and student groups. Friday morning, Nov. 8, students in PJC’s Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology will hold an Open House. A brief program overview will be given at 10 a.m. in Room 205 of the Daon Wall Applied Science Building, and then small groups will be led by students to view the specialized techniques and equipment in their internationally renowned facility. In each of the classrooms and work areas, students working on class projects will welcome questions from those attending. That evening, the President’s Reception is held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the McLemore Student Center Cafeteria. Saturday the Annual Alumni and Friends Board meeting starts at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Getting Reacquainted Reception in the Student Center Lobby. The DeShong Chapel is the site of the Annual Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. The Distinguished Alumni Award Luncheon honoring Dr. Robert L. Abshire will begin at noon in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom. Tours of the new Math and Science Building and the renovated Grimes Center will be given afterwards. Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Kelsey Goodman, Lanny “Hoss” Huggins, and Robert K. Hall will be inducted into the PJC Academic Hall of Honor. Action moves to the Hunt Center at 4:00 p.m. for the women’s basketball game against Lady Fort Bliss and the 6:00 p.m. men’s game against North Lake College. PJC’s Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the men’s game. “We hope our friends and alumni in the community will come out and help honor our Distinguished Alumnus and Hall of Honor inductees,” said PJC Institutional Advancement/Alumni Affairs Derald Bulls.
