Paris Junior College women’s basketball team member Damya Toney has signed to continue playing for Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala. The sophomore from Detroit, Mich., is a graduate of Chandler Park Academy.
“I’m excited about what’s going to happen next,” said Toney. “I think big things are going to happen. The team is excited for me and so are the coaches. Hopefully things will go well. I’m definitely going to miss PJC and Coach Madrid and Coach Nettles. They really helped me grow into the person I am today. I’ve gotten a lot better since my freshman year. A lot of people tell me I’ve grown a lot, so I really appreciate them.”
“We’re obviously very excited for Damya,” said PJC Women’s Basketball Coach Michael Madrid. “She has really put in a lot of work, a lot of hours to receive a Division I scholarship and fulfill one of her lifelong dreams of playing Division I basketball. I think Alabama State is going to get a guard who can score in a variety of ways and who plays very hard. I think the best is yet to come in terms of what kind of player she can be. We’re looking forward to watching her play.”
