The Beta Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Paris Junior College received its first District 3 Hall of Honors electives this year. Two individuals received the awards at the regional meeting held in Texarkana on March 30 but were not present to receive them. They were surprised with their badges at the regular meeting Monday evening at PJC. PTK is the two-year college honor society.
Club advisor Joe Jackson was pinned first for his exceptional service to PTK, receiving his badge from PTK Historian/Secretary Paula Vaughan. Next PTK President Kristin McConnell surprised Vaughan by presenting her with a badge. She had been nominated by her peers for her efforts as past PTK president to keep the chapter thriving through several advisor transitions, during which time the chapter received a Four Star rating.
“District III leadership noted that these are the first Hall of Honor recipients from PJC’s Beta Zeta Chapter,” said PTK advisor Diann Mason.
“There was not a dry eye in the house,” said McConnell. “We were very honored that our chapter was elected for the first time ever in the District 3 Hall of Honors, as we are a smaller chapter. We were all very proud of our District 3 Hall of Honors elects, and so very honored to have them representing our chapter. Thank you Paula and Joe for your exceptional service to our honor society.”
