PTK officers attend Honors Institute in Galveston

Phi Theta Kappa officers and advisors from the Paris and Greenville campuses attended the 2005 Texas Honors Institute for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, held in Galveston July 22-24. The convention's theme was "Popular Culture: Shaping and Reflecting Who We Are." Officers attended general sessions, receiving information on the organization and how they could work to better their campus and community. Also on the schedule were seminar groups where officers could work with officers from other chapters to discuss and share ideas that could be used for fundraising and community service. These seminar groups, like the general sessions, were based on themes of popular culture. Sessions included themes such as Spongebob Squarepants, Super Friends, Mickey Mouse and The Muppets. A workshop on The Simpsons was presented by Toni McMillen, advisor of the PJC chapter. The trip wasn't all work, however. The flight to and from Galveston was an enjoyable one, especially for two Beta Zeta members who had never flown. Members also practiced their dance moves, thanks to the Welcome Dance and Ice Cream Social. The Moody Gardens of Galveston provided both an entertaining and educational experience on Saturday afternoon.
