PTK participates in Relay For Life to help fight cancer

Members of Paris Junior College’s Beta Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa took part in the Lamar County Relay For Life event.
Members of Paris Junior College's Beta Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa participated in the Lamar County Relay for Life program in June. "Slaying" cancer on behalf of PJC, the "Dragonhearts" took up the fight against cancer with a medieval theme, complete with knight, wizard, dragon and princess costumes.
The event took place at the North Lamar High School football field. Participants spent 12 hours, from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m., walking, running or just sitting back and relaxing.
Camping beside the track, students and faculty joined the Beta Zeta-sponsored team and participated in several games and activities, such as unrolling and putting on a frozen T-shirt over their clothing or listening to music played by local bands.
The main event was the determination and dedication of participants who gave their night to ensure that Paris Junior College would have at least one person walking the track at all times.
Phi Theta Kappa members raised $1,572 toward the fight against cancer, out of the combined $42,000 from all teams.
Plans are already under way for next year's Relay For Life.
