Published or Revised November 02, 2010
For its 86th Homecoming, Nov. 11-13, Paris Junior College has a schedule packed full of activities to suit every interest. The kick-off to the weekend is the Homecoming parade at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, starting at the campus and going through the center of Paris. The PJC Cheer Team selected "Mardi Gras" emphasizing the colors green, gold and purple for this year's parade theme. "We have a wide variety of activities for Homecoming to meet every interest," said PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin. "Please come join us." One of the highlights of the weekend is the annual Distinguished Alumni luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom. The two men being honored this year are Justice Jack Carter, a member of the Sixth Court of Appeals in Texarkana, and Elmer G. Ellis, president and chief executive officer of East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System in Tyler. "These two gentlemen are well known in their respective professional circles and have brought recognition to PJC throughout their careers," said Dr. Anglin. PJC has established endowed scholarships in the names of this year's Distinguished Alumni to celebrate their selections. "This is a significant way to show that you honor and support these individuals," said Institutional Advancement/Alumni Affairs Director Derald Bulls. "It is a unique way to carry forward a legacy in their name." If you would like to help honor these individuals by contributing to the endowment fund, please contact the Institutional Advancement Office at 903-782-0276 or 0291. Other activities over the weekend include the PJC Drama Department presenting "School House Rocks Live" in the Ray Karrer Theatre Friday evening at 7 p.m. The PJC Class of 1960 will also gather Friday evening. Saturday morning the Alumni and Friends have their annual business meeting at 9 a.m. in the McLemore Student Center Cafeteria. Following at 10 a.m. are reunion group meetings; participants are asked to bring their yearbooks and photos to the Student Center Room 205. From 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., you are invited to take a Trolley Ride Tour of Paris, departing from the Student Center. At 11 a.m. there is a Memorial Service in the DeShong Chapel, followed by the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon.
