PJC receives Reaffirmation of Accreditation

During Monday evening's meeting of the Paris Junior College Board of Regents, PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin announced that PJC's accreditation had been reaffirmed last week during the summer meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges. The college had gone through the reaffirmation of accreditation process during the last two years and had been reviewed by a visiting team of its peers in September 2012. The regents also approved the hiring of two vice presidents and a women's basketball coach. Dr. Barbara Buchanan was approved as Vice President of Instruction to replace Dwight Chaney upon his retirement. Dr. Buchanan currently serves as Academic Dean at Lone Star College – Montgomery and formerly was an Associate Dean of Workforce Education at Panola College where she also taught English and History. Dr. Buchanan holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in College Station in Education and Human Resource Development. Dr. Curtis Hill will fill the vacant position of Vice President of Student Services. Dr. Hill currently serves as Vice President of Student Services at South Arkansas Community College. Previously he worked for Dallas County Community College District and Tarrant County College. Dr. Hill holds an Ed.D. from Baylor University in Educational Administration. Michael Madrid was employed as Women's Head Basketball Coach to replace Sean LeBeauf who left for a position at the University of Arizona. Coach Madrid currently serves as Assistant Women's Coach at Texas Women's University and previously coached at Lubbock Christian College. Summer I enrollment is 1,732; down 3.62 percent since Summer I a year ago, while contact hour generation was up 3.61 percent. Even though headcount declined, students were taking more courses. In other action the Regents:
  • Accepted a bid from Norment and Landers for athletic insurance for 2013-2014.
  • Reviewed fall and spring enrollment and retention by course and faculty member as required by state law.
  • Approved a 15-meal plan for 2013-2014 as an option in addition to a 19-meal plan.
  • Received a report on www.comparecollegetexas.com , which was recently released by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and provides information for each Texas college and university, including average salaries of graduates.
  • Approved the employment of Kristi Shultz, Coordinator of Nursing Home Training, and Ty Welborn, History Instructor.
