PJC Board of Regents Honors Basketball Teams

Recognition of the Paris Junior College's Dragons and Lady Dragons basketball teams highlighted the beginning of the PJC Board of Regents meeting on Monday, March 22. Lady Dragons Head Coach Sean Lebeauf introduced the women who achieved fourth in the conference and made it to the second round of the regional tournament playoffs. Dragons Head Coach Tom Schuberth introduced the men who won the conference, achieved an NJCAA poll ranking of 14th in the nation and finished second in the regional tournament. The Board voted to increase in-district tuition by $1 per credit hour, out-of-district tuition by $2 per credit hour and the out-of-state tuition by $3 per credit hour effective with the fall 2010 semester. The 12-meal plan was increased to $1,050 per semester, and the 19-meal plan to $1,500 a semester. The Board also approved an increase in the rates charged for Masters Apartments to $750 a semester, and $850 a semester for the new residence hall under construction. In other business, the Board of Regents:- Received a report on Achieving the Dream math data and program modifications to help students better succeed in math classes.
- Heard an update on Legislative Priorities from a meeting in Kilgore last month for regents and trustees of East Texas community colleges.
- Received information about the requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation process; PJC comes up for accreditation again in 2013.
- Accepted the resignation of Board member Gerald Powell, who moved out of the PJC district.
- Approved opting out of the State Employee Charitable Contribution Campaign so all funds collected locally go to local charities.
- Extended the Aramark contract to run the cafeteria with a 4.5% increase for 2010-11.
- Received a positive racial profiling report for PJC.
- Received a report about the potential of adding men's and women's soccer to PJC.
- Extended the contract for Denney Architects and for Charter Builders for Phase II of the residence hall project.
- Heard updates from the President's Report on recent staff development and the 5 percent budget cut. PJC has been notified that there will be scholarships awarded to students at the PJC—Greenville Center starting in 2012 from the Jack and Lou Finney Charitable Remainder Unitrust.
- Hired Fred Green as Counselor Small Business Development Center/Paris Economic Development Corporation, effective May 1, 2010.
- Approved the re-employment of faculty for 2010-2011.
