PJC Board of Regents honors Dragons softball team

Published or Revised May 30, 2013

The Paris Junior College Board of Regents honored PJC's softball team at its meeting on May 20. The team had just returned after a historic trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association's national tournament. Introduced were Coach Nicole Dickson, Assistant Coach Chelsea Jordan, who just received her master's degree from Cameron University, and volunteer assistant coach Jack Butler, who has volunteered at PJC for 11 years. Coach Dickson introduced local players Ali Hargis, Katlin Alexander, Chelsea Jordan, Katlyn Bardwell, and Chancy Williams. The other players had already returned home. "They made PJC proud, as well as the entire city of Paris," said PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin. The regents then took up the depository bid from local banks, and Guaranty Bond Bank was selected. Both Curtis Fendley and Ginna Bowman recused themselves from the discussion and vote. In other business, the Regents:
  • Received a financial report from Vice President of Business Services John Eastman that while summer enrollment is still slow, expenditures are in line with revenue, and there is a surplus.
  • Accepted the audit engagement letter from McClanahan and Holmes, LLP, to audit PJC's 2012-2013 year.
  • Set the budget workshop for Monday, July 15.
  • Received the president's report, which included two reports submitted to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, one on enrollment data and instructional costs, and the other on licensure data.
  • Accepted the resignation of Yvonna Goldsmith, coordinator of nursing home training, effective May 31.
  • Following a vote to consider ending the Paris Junior College's women's basketball program on Monday evening, the regents rescinded the decision unanimously Friday morning. They then voted unanimously to direct Dr. Anglin to hire a new coach for women's basketball.
