Regents OK construction bond, new parking lot

Published or Revised April 24, 2012

In their Monday evening meeting, the Paris Junior College Board of Regents approved issuance of $4 million in revenue bonds for construction financing of the math and sciences building through five local banks. The remainder of project costs are being paid out of college reserves. The Regents also approved including the building of a new parking lot in the main contract with Charter Construction to be included in the guaranteed maximum price. Approximately 150 parking spots will be included. In other business the Regents:
  • Received a financial report from Vice President of Business Services John Eastman that cash is declining due to planned spending on construction, and revenue and expenditures are on target.
  • Altered the room and board rate to increase the Masters Apartments to $850 a semester and reflect the 5 percent increase made last month to the Aramark cafeteria contract.
  • Approved renewing the bookstore contract with Nebraska Books.
  • Accepted per course fee increases that reflect pass through costs.
  • Received a report on the Achieving the Dream Trustee Institute held in Santa Fe, N.M., from the three regents who attended: Berdie Gibson, Louise Taylor and Ann Wyche. All praised the knowledge on student success they gained from the institute, the improvements PJC is making for students as a result of the program, and the foresight of PJC President Dr. Pam Anglin in pushing for PJC’s participation in Achieving the Dream.
  • Were told that PJC Commencement will now begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11.
  • Approved the hiring of Tracy Irby, effective April 11, 2012, as Small Business Development Counselor.
