Ribbon-cutting signals forward momentum at PJC

Published or Revised August 19, 2010

A large crowd joined the Paris Junior College Board of Regents to celebrate the opening of the new South Campus Residence Hall with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon followed by a tour of the new facility. "The opening of this residence hall is the first step in a multi-year Facilities Master Plan which will ultimately renew the entire campus with both new construction and renovation of existing buildings", said PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin. "We hope this new residence hall will encourage additional students to attend PJC and live on campus." The new residence hall will house female students with 30 student rooms with suite bathrooms, a capacity of 60 student beds, plus a head resident's apartment. In addition to the common area at the entrance, there are laundry facilities and study areas. Total project cost of the new dorm, which was started last Sept. 17, was $4.2 million. Charter Builders was the construction manager at risk and brought the building in on time and under budget. Denney Architects was the project architect. The South Campus Residence Hall was financed through five local banks, and local subcontractors handled 30 percent of the construction work. Earlier this month the Regents authorized Phase II of the residence hall to begin with acceptance of a guaranteed maximum price of $3,242,932 from Charter Builders. That is slated for completion next July, and will house male students. The two wings will share the common area.
