Six Paris Junior College associate degree-nursing students have received $500 scholarships from the Roan Oak Masonic Lodge #860 of Garrett’s Bluff, Texas. The Lodge’s generosity is an increase of two students over the number receiving assistance last year.
“Roan Oak Masonic Lodge is part of the Grand Lodge of Texas,” said Lodge Worshipful Master Mike Parsons. “It’s a non profit organization. We hold a fish fry and pancake breakfasts to raise money and this is one of our charities that we give to.”
Receiving the scholarships are nursing students Perla Lopez of Paris, Rachel Whitley of Reno, Morgan Marshall of Ladonia, Maria Kilpatrick of Bagwell, Stephanie Dennis of Bonham, and Tate Anderson of Cooper.
“Scholarships from the Roan Oak Masonic Lodge have helped many PJC nursing students succeed,” said PJC Health Occupations Director Marcia Putnam. “Students have expenses such as tuition, books and living expenses which the scholarships help defray. The program is demanding, and to be successful students must devote time to their studies.”
Roan Oak Masonic Lodge assists the community by supporting the nursing students so they may go on to help others in the community. A fish fry at Garrett’s Bluff is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3. It is the lodge’s major fundraiser and everyone is invited to attend. For information about the event, call 903-732-4035. For more information about PJC nursing programs call 903-782-0734.
