Rotary Club awards $1000 scholarships

The Rotary Rotary Club of Paris United recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 15 area high school students attending Paris Junior College in the 2016-2017 school year. The Rotary Club of Paris United recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 15 area high school students attending Paris Junior College in the 2016-2017 school year. The scholarships are designed to cover educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board and are split between the fall and spring semesters.
Rotary Scholarship Committee member Connie Stauter and PJC Director of Student Life Kenneth Webb spoke to the students about their responsibilities at a meeting at PJC. They explained that the students are expected to demonstrate leadership and are encouraged to help with the Paris fireworks show held to celebrate the Fourth of July, attend one Rotary meeting a semester, attend PJC Student Government Association meetings and assist with the group’s activities, and maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
Also present was scholarship committee member Mahesh Agarwal to help answer questions.

Chisum High School: Miranda Bailey, Bailea Branum
North Lamar High School: Ryan Cody, Lindsey Cook, Dani Hicks, Kayla Igleheart, Lydia Klinkerman, Sierra Rice, Laura Sandoval, Logan Thomas
Prairiland High School: Casey Egan, Denrea McCarty, Jack McDowell
Roxton High School: Rachel Jones
Trinity Christian Academy: Madelyn Smallwood
