Sawyer honored for distance learning work

Published or Revised November 12, 2009

Anthony Sawyer, a Paris Junior College economics instructor, received the Outstanding Distance Learning Award for PJC at the NETnet convention in Tyler. Sawyer has taught multiple sections of economics both online and in ITV format. "Sawyer has been innovative in using multimedia, particularly video, to support his online courses, and he has adapted the course content of economics to online delivery," said Ken Haley, associate dean of academics. "He also provides ITV economics classes to multiple dual-credit ISD sites, sometimes with numerous assigned ISDs in the same conference in addition to students in the ITV classroom. He has always been receptive to new ideas and delivery methods, and he has been an enthusiastic supporter of distance education." Each college or university is eligible to nominate one full-time teaching faculty member who has contributed in the most highly creative ways to teaching, learning, and technology. Colleges and universities select their candidate based on an institution-wide search, using their own criteria.
