February dance to benefit PJC scholarships
Published or Revised January 12, 2007
The Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends, in conjunction with the Paris Area Arts Alliance, will present The Swing Connection Scholarship Benefit Dance Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Love Civic Center. Tickets to the dance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., are $25 per person. Heavy hor'dourves will be served. The event will benefit scholarship funds at Paris Junior College. The Swing Connection was organized in 1980. The Greenville-based band features 17 members directed by Bob Cartwright. Two of the band's members are from the Paris area: Dwight Logee, band director at Crockett Middle School in Paris, and Joe Watson, band director at Prairiland High School. The band's repertoire includes music from the big band era, including Glenn Miller favorites, the sounds of Artie Shaw and vocal selections from Frank Sinatra. "Don't miss the toe-tappin' fun of an evening of music from the days when ballroom dancing was the height of fashion," said Johnye Robertson, director of institutional development at the PJC Alumni and Friends Association. "The evening will be great fun with a serious purpose. With the spiraling costs of education, your help is needed all the more to assist students through the gift of scholarship."
