PJC Spring art exhibit

Two artists will be featured at the Foyer Gallery exhibit at Paris Junior College from Jan. 26 to Feb. 23, 2018. Above, “The Memory of Rain,” cyanotype on fabric, by Caroline Roberts and below is “Dream House 3,” acrylic on canvas by Lane Cooper.

Two guest artists are being showcased at the Foyer Gallery now through Feb. 23 at Paris Junior College, and a free reception will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. that is open to the public. "Shifting Sights/Shifting Sites" brings together two artists working in photography and painting: Caroline Roberts and Lane Cooper. Roberts is based in Houston and works in alternative photography processes such as cyanotype, using landscape as metaphor. Her work does not represent a single location or time but is a metaphor for place, thinking about the way that landscapes form and change, our traces on its surface, and our complicated relationship to the natural world. Cooper is based in Cleveland, Ohio and develops her paintings from photographic sources. As one comes closer to the surface, there is a high degree of tactility and the substance of the paint become more evident while the image falls away. The exhibition is open from Jan. 26 to Feb. 23, during regular building hours: Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Feb. 13 reception will be held in the Foyer Gallery in the Art Building located on the southeast corner of the Paris Junior College campus.
