Applications being accepted for STEM Academy

Published or Revised May 02, 2012

A wonderful opportunity awaits high schools students interested in math and science this summer at Paris Junior College: tuition, fees, books and lunch are taken care of, plus they will receive college credit for the courses they complete. So far the academy, open to junior and senior high school students from Lamar County high schools, only has five applicants. The STEM academy begins June 11 and runs through July 6, so applications need to be turned in quickly. The applications are available from high school counselors. Students who meet PJC dual credit admission requirements and are selected for the academy will attend classes on the PJC campus from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will be provided lunch in the PJC cafeteria daily. Students will also get to tour local industries to see how the concepts being learned in the classroom are applied by industry. Courses offered include Statistics, General Chemistry – Inorganic, College Physics and Analytic Geometry/Calculus I. An awards banquet will be held for students and their parents on July 12. For more information about the STEM Academy, contact PJC's Associate Dean of Math and Sciences Ed McCraw at 903-782-0209.
