Paris Junior College's Music Department will present a student recital Thursday, Dec. 1, and a holiday concert next Monday and Tuesday evenings, Dec. 5 and 6. The student recital Dec. 2 features 10 music and musical theatre students performing selections from art music to modern musical theater repertoire. Most of the students are from the voice studio of Phil Briggs, instructor of music, and one is a trumpet player studying with adjunct music instructor Chris Kornegay. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Shaw Recital Hall in the Mayer Music Building. The Christmas by Candlelight Concert will be held in the DeShong Chapel on Dec. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. "The candlelight concert will feature music for the Christmas season from classical choral literature to modern choral compositions," said Briggs. Among the pieces performed will be music from a Gregorian chant, a Renaissance motet, a work from Russian Orthodox literature, Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus," and works by English composer John Rutter. Admission is free to the events.
