Chuck Taylor Region XIV Men’s Coach of the Year

Paris Junior College Head Basketball Coach Chuck Taylor, former assistant coach at University of Southern Alabama, was named Region XIV Men’s Coach of the Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association. This was his second season as head coach for the Dragons, in Paris, Texas.
After leading the Paris Junior College men's basketball team to a the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIV regular season conference championship (15-4 record), Coach Chuck Taylor was named the Region XIV Men's Coach of the Year.
"This is a very deserving honor for Coach Taylor," said PJC President Dr. Pam Anglin. "We're very proud of him and his team's accomplishments. We congratulate both him and the team; they've made us proud and reflected very well on PJC and the community."
In Taylor's first season leading the Dragons, they earned a 2010 season record of 22-9 and a second-round appearance in the Region XIV Tournament. Before coming to Paris, Taylor was associate head coach at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. In Taylor's three seasons at USA, he helped the Jaguars win the Sun Belt Conference championship and an at-large bid in 2007-08 to the NCAA Tournament.
"Any time your coaches vote you Coach of the Year," said Taylor, "it's a tremendous honor because they know the job you've done. And any time you win a championship in this league it's an honor because this is the toughest conference top to bottom in NJCAA – it's a marathon, not a sprint. I give all the credit to my team and thank my players, the PJC faculty, staff and administration, my assistant coaches and the community for their support throughout the season."
In 2008-09, he helped USA to another 20-win season and finishing as Sun Belt Conference Tournament runner-up. In 2009-10 Taylor helped USA beat 18th-ranked Florida and Arkansas out of the Southeastern Conference.
He had an overall record of 63-33 in three seasons with USA.
Prior to his stint at USA, Taylor was assistant coach at the University of North Texas, where the Mean Green won the 2006-07 Sun Belt Tournament and an NCAA Tournament berth. UNT won a school record 23 games that season.
Taylor served as head basketball coach of Richland College (in the Dallas County Community College District) in 2005-06, leading his team to a 24-8 record and the Metro Conference Championship. The team ranked third in the final NJCAA poll and was Region V Tournament runner-up.
Before Richland College, Taylor was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi from 2002-05. He helped the Islanders to a 20-8 record in 2004-05 – the first 20-win season in school history – including wins over Baylor, Texas Christian University and Florida State.
He served as assistant coach under Bill Foy at Paris Junior College from 2000 to 2002, helping the Dragons to a 44-20 (68.8 percent) mark. They were the Region XIV Conference Tournament runners-up in 2002.
