Look to laugh with PJC farce, “Tom, Dick & Harry”

In this rehearsal scene, Paris Junior College students portray two illegal Croatian immigrants (one tipsy) and a harried prospective adoptive parent trying to get them out of the way before the adoption agency inspector arrives. From left are Stephanie Goudy as Katerina, Derick Waugh as Andreas and Trenton Little as Tom Kerwood.
Paris Junior College drama students are presenting a play, "Tom, Dick & Harry," about three brothers. One is Tom, who with his wife is about to adopt a baby. With a woman from the adoption agency about to arrive to check on the home and lifestyle of the prospective parents, his brothers are anxious to help make a good impression.
Unfortunately, Dick, who has stashed boxes of smuggled brandy and cigarettes in the house, and Harry, who is in possession of a cadaver he is planning to sell illegally to a medical school, fail miserably.
The adoption agency representative is aghast — and the illegal Croatian aliens who do not speak English are no help at all.
"'Tom, Dick, and Harry' is a British comedy of farcical proportions and takes the idea of 'what else could go wrong today' and shows you just exactly what else can go wrong," said PJC drama instructor and play director William Walker.
"I love being in this play," said PJC student Derick Waugh of Paris. "It's lots of fun, lots of work. The audience will find it hilarious. It's an absolute fun show that people will be talking about for days, weeks, hopefully even years."
Unlike most farces, the plot revolves around disguising illegal activities rather than romantic entanglements. Characters make up stories to hide what's really happening, only to be trapped into even greater mistruths.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m., March 2 and 3, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoons, March 3 and 4. Tickets are $5 for adults and free with PJC ID.
