The Paris Junior College Chorale, led by PJC music faculty member Alaina Downing, will perform a free concert on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Shaw Recital Hall.
Chorale members include Katela Amador, Addison Brown, Sarah Curtis, Alexandra Meek, Elizabeth Guillory, Casey Reineche, and Isaac Vaughan. Janie Logee wil accompany them on piano.
The chorale will perform traditional folk songs and poetry set to music from composers Johannes Brahms, Elaine Hagenburg, Jacob Naverud, and Greg Gilpin. The poetry is by H.W. Longfellow, Lamiya Safarova, Leonora Speyer. The folksongs are from Venezuela and Germany and the program will be presented in Latin, Spanish, German, and English.
“I was focused on exposing our students to collegiate chorale repertoire that a four-year program would expect a transferring student to be familiar with,” said Downing. “There will be a range from Renaissance to 20th Century music.”
