Two from North Lamar receive scholarships
Published or Revised April 27, 2010
Two North Lamar students received Lamar County Retired Teacher scholarships at the organization's spring luncheon held at the Paris Junior College ballroom. The scholarships are for $1,000 each. Cheyenne Fodge of Paris and Angela Archbold of Reno received the scholarships from Karen Beard, scholarship chairman. Fodge, the daughter of Lula and Ken Johnson, is active in FFA, Co-op, drama and peer mentoring. Her most recent achievement is in AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination), a new approach to education launched in 2009, with North Lamar being one campus out of six in the state of Texas. She was selected and trained for this new program because of her maturity, integrity, sensitivity, and commitment to seeing others succeed. Fodge plans to teach high school English and to "have a very bright future educating students". Archbold, the daughter of Judy and Tim Morton, plans to teach high school math or elementary school. She is a Texas Scholar who is also involved in band, the Beta Club, the Spanish Club, peer mentoring, and is a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. In her nomination, her teacher commended her leadership abilities; her willingness to do whatever is necessary for whatever she is involved in to succeed, her responsibility in any situation, and her self-discipline. The honorees and their families were guests at the luncheon and award presentation.
