PJC featuring two exhibits in September

The Paris Junior College Art Department will feature two exhibitions in the Foyer Gallery in September. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, September 27, from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
In the main section of the Foyer Gallery, the PJC Art Department will present “My Best,” an exhibition of gouache and watercolor paintings by Houston-based artist John Forse. The paintings depict both Houston and Paris. Working primarily from direct observation, the paintings include landscapes, architecture, and scenes taken from a typical week, such as garbage cans on the curb and a man fishing along a bayou.
Forse received his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Houston, where he currently teaches Watercolor. A member of Box13 Artspace in Houston, Forse has exhibited his work at College of the Mainland Art Gallery in Texas City, and Matchbox Gallery, galleryHOMELAND, Suplex HQ, and Lawndale Art Center in Houston.
The second exhibit, “Found,” features a collection from PJC’s new art instructor, Melinda Laszczynski. Finding and collecting objects is a part of her studio practice and she was delighted to find many interesting things and left-behind projects when sorting through the Art Department.
Most of the artists and dates of the work created are unknown, leaving her to imagine a history of their makers and the department itself. Laszczynski received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Houston, and previously taught at Houston Community College. She recently completed a nine-month artist’s residency at the Lawndale Art Center in Houston and currently has work on view in a solo exhibition, A Hole A Pool A Moon, at Galleri Urbane in Dallas.
Both exhibitions are open from September 26 to October 30, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Foyer Gallery is located in Building 14 in the southeast corner of the PJC campus with access from Collegiate Dr.
The PJC Art Department will also present an exhibition of Fall 2017 semester student work with an opening reception on Wednesday, November 15, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The student exhibition will be on view through December 14.
