PJC volleyball players Britney Johnson (left) and Iliana Chakarova (right) sign to continue their playing and education careers as PJC volleyball coach Justin Maness looks on. Johnson will attend Southern Arkansas University and Chakarova is heading to Olivet Nazarene University.
Brittney Johnson of Copperas Cove, Texas will play for Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas this fall. Iliana Chakarova of Bankso, Bulgaria has signed with Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
“She [Johnson] is probably going to be a DS/libero there,” said PJC Volleyball Coach Justin Maness. “She’s an outstanding kid, one of the hardest workers I’ve ever had come in the gym. It is well deserved that she gets to go on and play. She brings in a consistency every single day with her attitude, with her play - it never falters, so I know she is going to be a great asset to SAU.”
“I’m pretty excited about SAU. I visited a couple of months ago and the campus was nice,” said Johnson. “PJC taught me to be better on the court. I loved both my teams both years, and whether we won or lost it was still good.”
“Iliana chose that Olivet Nazarene University because it has one of the best computer engineering schools in the nation,” said Maness. “It also puts her closer to people she knows in Chicago. She’s consistant and always shows up to play hard every day. She’s an outstanding athlete and academically she’s going to do extremely well there just as she did here.”
“It’s a very good school with a very good computer engineering program and a very strong volleyball program,” said Chakarova. “I’m very excited to go there and the coach has called every day to see how things are. PJC provided very good preparation for going on. "
