Seminar set for veterans looking into attending college
Published or Revised November 16, 2012
Paris Junior College is sponsoring an information seminar for military veterans interested in returning to college in Paris, Greenville and Sulphur Springs at the end of November. "Information will be provided on the first steps to take to apply for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and/or Dependent VA benefits," said PJC Veterans/Financial Aid Specialist Jennifer Smith, "as well as what financial aid is available." Smith, joined by PJC Financial Aid Director Linda Slawson, will go over specific programs available for different veterans. Veterans have different circumstances, and that means different criteria for aid. Those recently discharged, for instance, will have different criteria than those discharged over 20 years ago. There are also programs to assist unemployed veterans. Additionally, information will be given on how to apply for federal financial aid and how to get admitted to college. For more information contact Jennifer Smith at 903-782-0371. In Paris, the seminar will be on Nov. 27 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center's room 1202. In Greenville, the seminar will be held at the Paris Junior College – Greenville Center on Nov. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room 224. In Sulphur Springs, the Paris Junior College – Sulphur Springs Center hosts the seminar on Nov. 29 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room 1202.
