Regents approve dual credit agreement, revise COVID policy

At their Monday, May 25, 2021 meeting, the Paris Junior College Board of Regents gave annual approval to the dual credit memorandum for high schools, and modified mask rules to reflect Texas Governor Greg Abbott's executive order.

The Paris Junior College Dragons All American Basketball Camp for boys in first through ninth grades will be held Monday, June 14 through Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Hunt Athletic Center, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Coding Camp application deadline is June 1

Paris Junior College has holding a special coding camp made possible by the Texas Workforce Commission at six locations during June, July and August. Applications must be received by the PJC Continuing Education Department on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. The college will be closed on Monday, May 31 for Memorial Day.

Paris Junior College celebrated the 96th spring Commencement with a modified in-person ceremony that included a Teaching Excellence Award. More than 250 students, including current graduates as well as those who had virtual ceremonies in 2020, participated in the graduation at Noyes Stadium on May 7, 2021.

The pinning ceremony for vocational nursing students at Paris Junior College was held in person at the Love Civic Center on May 6, 2021. In addition to the pinning, several students received awards, though all were recognized by LVN Instructor Dani Gilbreath for their achievement.

A scholarship covering tuition to one 2021 Summer I or Summer II class for graduating high school students in the Paris Junior College service area. That includes Delta, Hopkins, Hunt, Lamar, and Red River counties.

In 2020, Paris Junior College held virtual graduation ceremonies for the spring and fall semesters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those graduates are now invited to return and walk in the in-person commencement ceremony slated for 7:00 p.m., May 7, 2021 at Noyes Stadium on the Paris campus.

PJC aids Lamar County COVID-19 vaccinations

Students of Paris Junior College had readily taken the opportunity to step up and help in the Paris and Lamar County COVID-19 vaccination effort begun in late January. A majority of students in the PJC nursing programs were joined by students in the emergency medical services program, nursing and EMS faculty, and faculty and staff from PJC to assist in getting hundreds of people vaccinated over two Fridays (Jan. 22 and 29, 2021) at the Hunt Center.

PJC Regents receive clean audit, modify nursing program

A clean audit report for Paris Junior College and the PJC Memorial Foundation was presented to the College Board of Regents by Teffany Kavanaugh, audit manager for McClanahan and Holmes, at their monthly meeting held Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. Regents also approved changes to the College’s nursing program.

Paul Keith Denney Endowment created at PJC

Architect and Paris Junior College alumnus and regent Paul Keith Denney passed away on July 18, 2019 after a 16-month battle with brain cancer. Now, thanks to his friend Linda Vandiver, Denney's musical legacy will live on in an endowment created to award music scholarships to PJC.
