Academic Fresh Start is a program that allows Texas residents the opportunity to enroll at Paris Junior College (PJC) without having previous poor academic performance negatively impact their current enrollment, grade point average (GPA), or academic standing.

In accordance with the Texas Education Code, Section 51.931, a Texas resident may apply for admission or re-admission to PJC—and/or to any program with specialized admission requirements—and choose to have all academic coursework earned 10 or more years prior to the enrollment date excluded from consideration for enrollment purposes.

To participate in Academic Fresh Start, the applicant must complete the Academic Fresh Start Agreement with the PJC Admissions Office prior to registration, confirming the decision to enroll under this provision. Once elected, no course credit may be awarded for any coursework completed 10 or more years before the term of enrollment.

Applicants who choose Academic Fresh Start must still meet all PJC admission or re-admission requirements and submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Courses excluded under Academic Fresh Start will not count toward a degree, will not be calculated into the GPA or academic standing, and may not be used to meet prerequisite requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Academic Fresh Start does not apply to the Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) used to determine financial aid eligibility. A student may still be ineligible for financial aid based on prior academic history, even if Academic Fresh Start is granted.
