Financial Aid - Grants and Scholarships
Grants
NOTE: Descriptions of financial aid as listed do not represent a contract and are subject to change at any time without notice, in accordance with federal guidelines and appropriate laws.
Grants are gift funds which do not require repayment for completed courses and are awarded based on financial need. Financial Need is determined with information from a student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Therefore, you must complete a FAFSA to be considered for any aid at Paris Junior College.
A student's financial aid package may include grant money whenever guidelines and funding levels permit.
Federal Grant Programs
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant program is the largest of federal student aid programs and provides a "foundation" of financial aid to which aid from other federal and non-federal sources may be added. The Pell Grant is available only to undergraduate students who have not received a baccalaureate degree. Students may apply for this grant by completing the FAFSA.
Pell Grants are awarded based on the number of credit hours a student attends, up to a full-time maximum. Additional classes after the full-time limit will not increase an award past the Pell maximum. Reducing classes below the full-time amount can result in a reduction in awarded funds!
Students who add additional classes after their Pell refunds have been processed will be expected to pay for those classes out of their refund amount and will not receive additional funds!
Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
This is an additional grant for undergraduates that may be awarded to students with exceptional financial need. Grants range from $100 to $4,000 a year, depending on your need, the amount of other aid you are receiving, and the availability of SEOG funds - unlike Pell, SEOG funds are limited and can be exhausted, so make sure you get your FAFSA in before classes begin!
The SEOG has a minimum number of enrolled credit hours in order to receive funds.
Federal Work-Study Program
The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time employment for U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are students and have a demonstrated financial need. Students employed under this program are paid minimum wage and are not eligible for fringe benefits such as holiday, vacation or sick pay. Students are expected to maintain acceptable work habits to maintain employment.
Federal work-study awards consist of a pool of funds that the Student receives as they work. Students are paid at their hourly rate every two weeks and may work up to 19 hours per week until their available work-study award amount is exhausted.
It is possible for a student with a work-study award to run out of available funds, at which point they can no longer work that semester. It is also possible for a work-study student to be awarded and receive no funds if they do not find a work-study position!
A current list of work-study jobs is available in the Financial Aid Office on the Paris Campus. To participate in this program, a student must have submitted a current FAFSA.
State of Texas Grant Programs
The following state-sponsored programs are only available to students attending community colleges, technical colleges, and universities in Texas. They cannot be used out of state.

Frequently Asked Questions
The current FAFSA year, covering Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 is the 2025-26 FAFSA.
While the 2026-27 FAFSA is available, it will not be used to determine eligibility for aid until Fall 2026!
PJC's School Code is 003601
When you complete a FAFSA, the Department of Education processes it and sends the information to colleges you selected while completing the application. The notification email from the Department of Education does not indicate you have been awarded aid at PJC!
After your information is delivered to PJC, we can begin processing your FAFSA to determine your award. This process may take 7-10 business days (or more at the start of a semester).
That depends on when you started classes. Please visit our Important Dates page for more information.
If you are not attending at a full-time pace, it will lower the Pell amount you are eligible to receive. This adjustment happens if:
- You accepted aid as soon as it was awarded (at full-time amounts), and then the system updated with your actual number of credit hours.
- You reduced the amount of classes below a full-time rate, and the system updated to reflect that.
Pell Grants are paid out as a percentage of your maximum award according to the following information (current for 2025-26 FAFSA year):
| Credit Hours | Enrollment Intensity | Enrollment Status Equivalent | ||
| 12 + | 100% | Full-Time | ||
| 11 | 92% | Three-Quarter Time | ||
| 10 | 83% | Three-Quarter Time | ||
| 9 | 75% | Three-Quarter Time | ||
| 8 | 67% | Half-Time | ||
| 7 | 58% | Half-Time | ||
| 6 | 50% | Half-Time | ||
| 5 | 42% | Less-than-Half-Time | ||
| 4 | 33% | Less-than-Half-Time | ||
| 3 | 25% | Less-than-Half-Time | ||
| 2 | 17% | Less-than-Half-Time | ||
| 1 | 8% | Less-than-Half-Time |
The total amounts listed are for a two semester attendance period. You'll receive half of the amount for each semester.
Note: If you attend in all three periods (Fall/Spring/Summer), you may be eligible for additional aid. Contact the Financial Aid office if you have any questions.
